About Me

Hi! I'm Matt. I have 20+ years of musical experience: Voice, Piano, A Cappella, Musicals, Choir, and Clarinet. I am also in graduate school for Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I greatly value building a positive relationship with people, and that especially applies to my relationship with my students. I'm also an avid gamer. I love music because it has a fascinating, almost otherworldly quality, all while organized into a theoretical structure. Without a doubt, music enhances life, and is a source of great inspiration.

What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons

- - Advanced

I'm going to teach sight reading, chords, scales, and a bit of music theory. My goal is to help students become capable of switching between chords in order to play modern music with ease, being able to use their ear to figure out how to play songs, and more. My teaching style is not particularly demanding, but I do challenge students to push past their limits when I feel they are ready and able. You can count on me to be helpful, friendly, and informative.

Formal Education:

I have studied music at University of Delaware for 1 1/2 years, and one semester at Suffolk County Community College. While I have changed my college major from music to psychology and clinical mental health counseling, I make sure to keep music as a very relevant part of my life.

Private Education:

I have had multiple piano lesson students over the last couple of years.

Performing Experience:

I have been in multiple musicals in high school and college. Roles include Prince Eric (Little Mermaid), Warner (Legally Blonde), Aladdin (Aladdin), and Benny Southstreet (Guys and Dolls). I have performed in A Cappella groups in high school and college: I was the music manager of a high school group and the leader of a college group. I have expereince performing in piano, when I was with the University of Delaware's 8-bit Orchestra.
