About Me

Hi, my name is Jaleesa and I am a singer-songwriter from Chattanooga, Tennessee. I’ve been singing since I was a small child and recently earned my degree in Music Composition with an emphasis in songwriting from Webster University in St. Louis, where my primary instrument was voice. I also earned a minor in Sound Recording and Engineering. My musical influences include Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, H.E.R., and Jazmine Sullivan, and I also enjoy exploring soul, jazz, and hip hop. My teaching style can best be described as encouraging, creative, and tailored to each student's goals. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I believe in nurturing the whole artist technically, emotionally, and creatively. In my lessons, you can expect to learn vocal technique, performance skills, songwriting tools, and how to build confidence in your unique sound. I love helping others express themselves through music and grow into their own artistry. My favorite performance was competing in the Hooked Songwriting Contest, where my song was chosen as a top 10 contender and I performed in front of judges and a live audience two years in a row. While I’m new to teaching, I bring experience in performance, songwriting, and recording into every session. I primarily teach voice, but I can also teach beginning songwriting, performance coaching, and basic DAW skills for recording demos.
