Hi, my name is Gabriela and I am a jazz vocalist from Chicago, Illinois. I recently just graduated from Oberlin Conservatory with a degree in Jazz Voice Performance. I have been singing professionally since I was eight years of age, and have just moved to New York to pursue my dreams of becoming a full-time artist and educator. My musical influences include Sarah Vaughan, Betty Carter, Nancy Wilson, Carmen Mcrae, and Dinah Washington. But don't get me wrong I also love newer singers too, like Jazmine Sullivan, Janet Jackson, Liz Phair, and Esparanza Spalding. I specialize in teaching vocal technique, vocal improvisation, storytelling, songwriting, lyric writing, music theory, music history, as well as beginner to intermediate piano and guitar. My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that as long as the love and passion is there, anyone can create music. Music is something that has made a connection through us all and we all have the right to create our own original sounds! I am open to all ages and have experience in teaching anyone from age 8 to age 60. Even if you are out of that age range, don't hesitate to reach out! I look forward to meeting my future students and helping them on their musical journeys.
