About Me
Hi, my name is Tyler and I am a musician and singer/songwriter originally from Connecticut, but I have lived in Cincinnati for the last 10 years. I started my musical journey playing violin at 9 years old but picked up a guitar when I was 11 and haven’t stopped playing since! In college, I majored in journalism with a minor in the History of World Music. I wrote my first song at 18. My musical influences include John Prine, Johnny Cash, mewithoutYou, and Jack Johnson, although I’m also heavily influenced by hip-hop! My favorite performance was playing at Madison Live Theater in Covington, KY. My teaching style can best be described as giving you the tools you need to start creating music and expressing yourself. I believe music is an outlet for experiencing all the ups and downs of life and I want to help you find that outlet! In my lessons, you can expect to learn the musical alphabet and foundations, reading tablature and chord diagrams, and the chord progressions to your favorite songs. I like to tell my students that anyone can learn guitar-all you need is desire and commitment. My favorite thing about teaching is watching someone smile when they play their first song. I primarily teach guitar and songwriting, but I can also teach bass. Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon!

What to expect in my Guitar Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

Guitar is a tool I use to relax. A tool for creativity. A tool to express myself. I make money performing live every week. I have a residency at the Blind Lemon in Cincinnati. I have played over 200 gig there. I want to teach you to use the guitar to express yourself. To create and to relax. I will teach you the musical alphabet. How to read tabs. How to read chord diagrams. How to form chords. How to transition from one chord to the next in a chord progression. I will teach you scales (minor and major and others). I will teach you how chord flow works using the Nashville number system. If you want how to learn sheet music, I can teach you the basics of that as well. I have been playing guitar since I was 11 years old. I'm 35 now (24 years). I have lead worship teams for college campus organizations and several churches. I have been playing live since 2010. I have recorded many, many songs in professional studios and have released them on every major streaming service. My band project is called 'Fulton Run.' You can look that band name up anywhere online like Spotify and Apple music. I also have many recorded materials under my name 'Tyler .' You can find music there as well online. Guitar and music in general has been such a gift in my life. I turn to playing the guitar because it is a grounding force in my life. When I am sad, I turn to the guitar. When I am happy, I play guitar. I want to give you the knowledge to use the guitar as a tool for self expression and even as a form of meditation. I will teach you to play music and write your own if you would like. Let's get going and have some fun! I can also teach beginner bass lessons. The bass guitar is similar to the guitar in that the strings are tuned to the same note and you can play the bass in a similar way. The main difference is that the bass acts as a bridge between the guitar and the drums. I am also a singer. I can teach the basics on finding your voice and singing in key. My wife was also a vocal major at Dayton Univeristy in Ohio and I lean on her for her extensive classical music knowledge. I can also teach advanced songwriters. I have written hundreds of poems and know classical poetic form. Part of my college degree consisted of numerous creative writing classes along with knowledge of classical literature and world literature. I have also written over 250 songs myself and consider myself extremely knowledgeable in the craft of songwriting.
