Desmond R.

I am a versatile drummer, rapper, and music educator with a deep passion for creativity and collaboration. Originally from Pittsburgh, I studied jazz and classical percussion at Pittsburgh CAPA before earning my bachelor's degree in Pop Drums from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester, England. While at RNCM, I also studied composition and production, with my original music orchestrated and performed by the college's Session Orchestra. As a drummer, I’ve toured, recorded, and performed with bands such as Turtle Park, Snowdonia, The Beautiful Sinners, Sophia Blake, and the Afroyaghty Collective—led by Ben Barson, 2018 recipient of the ASCAP Johnny Mandel Prize. I have a wide range of genres I’ve studied, performed, and can teach to students, including pop, rock, jazz, funk, R&B, hip-hop, and classical percussion. These experiences have helped me connect with musicians from diverse backgrounds and tailor lessons to students' unique goals and interests. As a rapper, I have been able to make my album X under the name Planet Wesmo, combining self-produced beats, original lyrics, and collaborations with artists from both the UK and Pittsburgh, including She's Mine. I’ve been rapping and writing for over ten years, and have also ghostwritten for other artists—something I find rewarding, especially when supporting up-and-coming songwriters. As a teacher, I aim to nurture both skill and passion. Whether helping beginners fall in love with music or guiding more advanced students toward their personal goals, I bring energy, empathy, and a student-centered approach to every lesson. Now back in Pittsburgh and excited to contribute to the local music scene, I'm ready to help inspire the next generation of musicians. Peace and love Desmond
