About Me

I Xara started singing as a baby, perfectly in tune, according to my parents, before I even knew how to talk! Singing and music has been my deepest passion my entire life, and I am now working to produce my first couple albums in my most treasured genres. As a child from age 5-13 I took piano lessons and can still play although it's not my specialty anymore. I chose to go to LaGuardia High School of Music and Art for my love of singing and music, and there I was trained classically in opera, choral singing, music theory and music history, as well as many other special music classes and electives. Over the years, I've gained a particular love of folk music and love to sing traditional music in different languages and traditions. I've also continued relationships with friends from my highschool and worked on our my own arrangements of folk songs and classical pieces in my own style, as well as meeting different types of professional musicians wherever I go and playing pieces together. I've performed at open mics and small concerts, and learned to teach and perform music more casually by working last year at Kids Orbit as a music teacher for young children where I taught them some of my favorite melodies and we even composed our own original songs! I've also taught songwriting and composition to children and adults with my Georgian folk singing trio, and can competently lead a small group or teach individually with lots of patience. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned professional, I can help you expand and enhance your playing, and I am excited to learn how I can help you reach your musical goals. Xara S. is proficient in and teaches Vocal Lessons, Song Writing Lessons .

Formal Education:

I studied music and vocal performance at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School and, I am now a self-taught traditional/folk musician working on my first albums in this genre, pop, and classical as well.

Private Education:

I've taken vocal lessons since I was a child in pop and contemporary singing, and I've also taken piano lessons for 7 years as a child (although I haven't played very much since). I've studied diaphragm singing technique with my teacher for the last 2.5 years and am hoping to teach this method to any new students I may have who want to learn it.

Performing Experience:

I've been performing in small concerts and open mic events for years, and with my Trio we've been performing for the last two years at small and medium-sized concerts. At LaGuardia High School I performed regularly for our vocal class exams, and was also selected twice for solos in our 200-person choral ensembles which performed at the school in Semi-Annuals and at Riverside Church.

Experience Teaching:

I have been teaching music for many years in casual settings, mainly Georgian folk singing with my trio here in Brooklyn, and in summer camp programs, after-school help, and for friends and family. Last year I worked professionally as a music teacher at Kids Orbit for children aged 4-12, and taught the fundamentals of music, some fun folk songs that I changed the words to so they could learn the melody in the context of a kid-friendly English song, choral singing and harmony, performance in solos and small groups, and we composed lots of original songs together with each grade level, taking all of their imaginative ideas and going from there to form a full song, which was a lot of fun. I can guide individual students in vocal warmups and proper technique, as I've been studying diaphragm singing very seriously for the last 2.5 years with my own teacher and have learned the best way to teach this, and also am very experienced in pop and and other genres of singing, so I have many methods in my knowledge to aid and teach students in whatever way is best for them.
