About Me

Hi! My name is Kate. I am a fourth-year undergraduate student studying Violin Performance under Professor Linda Wang at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of music. I started playing the violin when I was 8 years old, and have been in love with music ever since! I grew up in the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony program with an amazing teacher from the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Autumn Deppa. I participated in their Mozart Strings Project, all the way through the full Youth Symphony. My final years, I had the opportunity to coach the beginning string orchestras. They shaped the way I teach, and I do my best to teach through their motto of “Through Music We Are One” – making sure every student can fall in love with music and have access to the teaching and opportunities that I did. I teach with a combination of Suzuki books, Fiddle Rhythms, and other teaching tools. Through the years, I have had the opportunity to work with many wonderful conductors and coaches, as well as play many masterclasses under some incredible guest artists. Some of these masterclasses have included violinists Fedor Rudin, Judith Ingolfson, Simon Gollo, Amy Oshiro and Stella Chen; and notable conductors have included Brett Mitchell, Josef Caballé Domenech, Marin Alsop, and Jose Luis-Novo. Besides playing in the Symphony Orchestra at the Lamont School of Music, I also plays in a chamber orchestra and two small chamber ensembles: a string quartet and quintet. I work with various ensembles around Colorado, including the orchestra at Arvada United Methodist Church, and Ovation West Performing Arts. Each summer, I travel to various festival and masterclass opportunities, including Prague Summer Nights, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, Sewanee Summer Music Festival, Eastern Music Festival, Bravo! Summer Music Academy, and Manitou Chamber Music Festival. I continue to fall in love with music every day, and I hope to share that love with you!
