My name is Ronnita and I’m excited to apply for your Music Instructor position at Taylor Robinson Music. In addition to playing guitar and being a local singer-songwriter for the past decade, I have steadily been building my career in education for the past 6 years. I am hoping to finally bridge the gap and combine my music skills and classroom teaching skills in a more arts-centered environment. Before teaching in a classroom setting, I was first introduced to directing children’s musicals, during where I taught my cast to solidify fundamental scene work skills, coupled with private vocal lessons. From there, I transitioned into formal teaching and sharpened my organizational skills. In the planning phases, I provided critical criticism and insight to lesson planning, including careful observation and survey collection across 6 grade levels to improve upon previous lessons. Challenges ranged from breaking down projects based purely on materials used, to recalling evidence of certain tactics working over others, to basing feedback on personal encounters while teaching the lesson. We also took careful note of behavioral management, building self-esteem, and fostering relationships between students and co-teachers. As I sought out arts integration programs, I discovered the more tangible results in teaching kids an artistic skill. Some of my favorite outcomes of teaching art are the confidence building, and patience development. As the first progresses, the latter follows suit, and even vice versa. The key to teaching kids any skill, whether it’s as enthralling as music or intimidating as computer science, is starting where they are. As a guitarist of the past 10 years, I know exactly where they’re coming from: distracted by the allure of playing guitar and a little unprepared for the actual process. My seven years in childcare and classroom management equipped me with acute first-hand knowledge of how to get young students from Concept A to Concept B. My passion for guitar is what allows me to bridge the gap between these experiences; I can both empathize with being a beginner, and wield my expertise to guide students toward mastery. Now that I have built up my teaching skills I am looking to merge my guitar skills with the world of education. With a structured routine built for sustainability, and an empathetic awareness for the unique emotional needs of children, I would be able to ensure a fun and worthwhile lesson for each student, regardless of experience or age. I would be honored to be able to mutually pursue this goal with your organization. I genuinely hope to collaborate with you all and am looking forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely, Ronnita
