About Me

Dustin came from a musical family, with a grandmother in the church choir, a professional piano tuner uncle, a piano teacher aunt, a professional touring metal drumming brother, and a grandfather who owned two piano stores in Alabama and Tennessee. After beginning on piano, Dustin soon moved on to guitar at age 10 after discovering his father's Beatles and Led Zeppelin records. Dustin's approach to music has always been song oriented, which has allowed him to deeply explore the roles of different instruments and the utility of theory and technique in aiding the songwriter and band arranger in executing the vision of a song. There is no genre that is off limits, and as a guitarist, drummer, bassist and vocalist Dustin has played in bands ranging from indie pop, punk, experimental art rock, classic rock styles, jazz, and hip hop. Dustin's love of teaching began with friends asking for help with instruments and song writing. As a teacher, Dustin's philosophy is to find what the students creative goals are and work holistically towards reaching those goals. Whether you are trying to write the next Taylor Swift song, learn how to play a solo that expresses your deepest self, or figure out the weird tunings on a Sonic Youth track, Dustin is excited to be a guide on your musical journey.
