About Me
Sankya Raghavis a classically trained pianist, dedicated teacher, and a recent alumnus of Texas State University. He dedicated his life to perfecting his primary instrument, the piano, since he was five years old. His former mentors were Anya Grakhowski, Dr. Michael Schneider, Dan Redner, Dr. Daniel Anasthasio, Dr. Jason Kwak, and Dr. Daria Rabotkina. He completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Texas State University and graduated with summa cum laude. Along with studying Western classical music, Sankya has also studied the Eastern side, where he took Carnatic vocal training from Arathi Sharbari of Shambavi School of Music. Teaching is also a profession of his. In the summer of 2023, he worked at the Aum Ashram summer camp organization as a camp counselor. He taught basic keyboard and singing skills to kids at Aum Ashram and Chinmaya Mission Center in San Antonio. During his studies at Texas State University, he also worked as a collaborative pianist for studio accompaniment. He has also played for other studios, such as Bill Hill Music Studio in New Braunfels. His dedicated goal is to share his expertise on essential technical skills and music fundamentals, aiming to inspire students to propel their music journeys in the future. His favorite teaching method book series to teach with is the Piano Adventures by Nancy and Randall Faber. Sankya values a positive learning environment when teaching that will help engage confidence in his students when they advance in their musical education and growth.

What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons

Beginner -

I believe that music should be inspiring, accessible, and never intimidating. My goal is to help every child build a strong foundation in the essential technical skills and music fundamentals, so they feel confident and joyful in their learning. With patient guidance and a nurturing approach, I strive to give students skills they can carry forward into their musical journeys for years to come.



Formal Education:

Sankya did his education at Texas State University, where he studied under Dr. Jason Kwak, Dr. Daria Rabotkina, Dr. Kyung Ae Lee, and Dr. Billy McNally. He completed both his Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance with summa cum laude and his Master's degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy.

Private Education:

Sankya was homeschooled for the majority of his high school education to allow more dedicated time towards his primary instrument. He studied at Keystone Online School.

Performing Experience:

Sankya brings over 20 years of performance experience. He participated in multiple young artist piano competitions as a child including the Annual Sonatina and Sonata International Youth Piano Competition 2008 and 2010 where he was a runner up. He got to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City. While studying at Texas State University, he was a finalist for the Aria and Concerto Competition in 2022 and 2023, and he flawlessly performed the first movement of Camille Saint-Saëns' Concerto no. 2 in G minor, op. 22 and the virtuosic third movement of Rachmaninoff's concerto no. 2, op. 18, respectively. During his undergrad year, he has also performed in one of the Texas State jazz bands for three semesters. During his graduate studies, he held an assistantship for studio accompanying. He worked as a collaborative pianist with exceptional sight-reading skills for other young musicians and various music studios, including Bill Hill Music Studio in New Braunfels. The School of Music recognized his dedication and awarded him as a recipient of the Spencer/Lockett Music Scholarship for two consecutive years and the Piano Achievement Award for the 2 academic year.

Experience Teaching:

Sankya is passionate about teaching. In the summer of 2023, he worked at the Aum Ashram summer camp organization as a camp counselor. He taught basic keyboard and singing skills to kids at Aum Ashram and Chinmaya Mission Center in San Antonio. While at Texas State, Sankya also participated in the FunKey Piano Project under the direction of Dr. Martin Kesuma where he taught a young beginner student there as well. Currently, Sankya is launching his virtual piano studio, where he has already assimilated four beginner students. His teaching philosophy centers around clarity, consistency, discipline, and structure without compromising on creativity. Sankya believes in patient guidance and an encouraging approach for his students to advance in the best way possible.
