He began playing drums at the age of 9 and continued his education by studying classic rock, progressive drumming systems, and structured practice methods such as New Breed and Great Hands for a Lifetime. His musical influences include Led Zeppelin, Blink-182, and modern drummers like Matt Garstka. Shawn's favorite thing about music is the energy of live performance and his favorite thing about teaching music is helping beginners build a strong foundation step by step. One of his favorite teaching experiences was seeing his private students in 2019 grow confident playing their first songs.
