Ed was born in Boston, Massachusetts and was given his first musical instrument, a half sized Spanish classical guitar, by his grandfather at age 5. He started studying the upright bass at age 8 while living in the Greater Boston suburb of Belmont and was given numerous accolades for his advanced ability on the instrument. He was awarded a National School Orchestra Award and a Certificate of Superlative Performance at the Berklee College of Music Jazz Festival when he was a senior in high school. Ed attended the University of Lowell in Massachusetts and Full Sail University in Florida where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Musical Performance and an Associate’s Degree in Audio Engineering. His working career includes studio work both as an engineer and a musician as well as music retail sales and operations and musical instrument manufacturing.
Ed S. has over 22 years of music experience in the Knoxville area.
Ed S. is proficient in and teaches Guitar Lessons, Bass Guitar Lessons, Record Engineer Produce .Formal Education:
University of Lowell. BA in Musical Performance. Full Sail University. AA in Audio Engineering.
Private Education:
Ed studied privately on upright bass with Berklee College of Music Graduate and Boston Jazz Pops bassist Mark Henry.
Performing Experience:
Ed has performed in orchestral groups, jazz ensembles, and several rock bands throughout his life. He currently performs in the Knoxville swing band, Marble City Shooters and the bluegrass group, The Evertones.
Experience Teaching:
Ed has taught both upright and electric bass privately since 1994. He has taught beginning guitar since 2012.
