5 Years
Hey I'm Will! I began playing guitar at the age of 6. Over the years, I've developed my skills further by taking lessons, playing shows, teaching lessons, studying music outside my instrument, recording music, and producing other artists. I've gained performance experience in the Lexington and surrounding areas by playing at such venues as The Burl and Willie's Locally Known and with acts such as Shotgun Wedding. Last Call, Off the Wall, and The Twigenburys. Though Will can teach many different genres of music, my personal favorites are classic rock, blues, jam band music, jazz, and pop. My love of music began when I was a small child. Some of my first memories were running around with my Spongebob cassette player listening to Bob Seger and Elvis Presley. I have had the desire to play music since I was 4, I remember sitting in the back of my Dad’s truck hearing the solo to “Red House” by Jimi Hendrix and instantly knowing that's what I want to do with my life and that’s never changed. I love teaching music because I have a deep passion for sharing my knowledge of things I love to other people, and music is the thing I love most in the world. I’ve always taught something, starting out I loved working with the Sunday School kids at my church growing up, in high school I worked in a 3rd grade class at Clay’s Mill Elementary. I wanted to go to school for that until I decided to pursue my passion for music instead. I’ve taught friends and family the guitar consistently for years. I started at a young age so I can empathize with young kids who want to pick up the instrument since I’ve been there myself! Whether you are a complete beginner or already know how to play, I can help you expand and enhance your playing. I’m excited to learn how I can help you reach your musical goals and share my love of playing music with you. Signup now to schedule a meeting!
Will H. has over 5 years of music experience in the Lexington area.
Will H. is proficient in and teaches Guitar Lessons, Orchestral Lessons .What to expect in my Guitar Lessons
Our first lesson will be more of a get to know you type of session. I'll ask about with the instrument/music in general, what made you decide to get started, your music goals, and your influences. For beginners we'll start with an introduction to the instrument (the parts of the guitar, the note names of each strings, how to properly hold a pick, and how to play notes on the fretboard) and them I will give you a basic melody to play so you can work on getting the feeling of the strings under your fingers. For intermediate/advanced players: The goal of my first lesson is to understand where you are in your journey and what things you want to work on. I'll give you an exercise to work on based on what your personal skills and develop a custom curriculum based on that.
Formal Education:
I studied at The Lexington School for the Recording Arts from 2
Private Education:
I've taken lessons from ages 6 to 18. Outside of that I was apart of my jazz program in high school, and have been apart of many recording sessions around Lexington.
Performing Experience:
I've been in bands since I was in middle school, my first performance was when I was 10 at Natasha's Bistro in downtown Lexington. I've played all over the state for years. Playing live is truly where I feel the most at home.
Experience Teaching:
I've taught friends and family for about 5 years now. My first student was a neighbor of mine who still plays to this day! I'm excited to get into teaching on a more professional level.
