About Me
Hi, my name is Aoife and I am a teacher and soprano from Salt Lake City. I have been a student of music for over 15 years. My musical influences include Leontyne Price, Jessye Norman, Enrico Caruso, Anna Moffo, and Arleen Auger and I also enjoy listening to modern musical theater such as SIX the musical as well as any opera in French. My teaching style can best be described as a mixture of physical awareness and emotionally supportive. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I aim to create an environment in which my student can be 100% secure in their ability t create music and love the process. Making music, especially singing, is a deeply vulnerable and beautiful thing. I will always seek to give my students the ability to know that their technique will carry them through any situation from choir to solo to theater. In my lessons, you can expect to learn how the human voice works, why it is important to discover your own voice, and how music and the strength that you get from learning to embrace your voice can be applicable to other points in your life. I like to tell my students that there is no such thing as a mistake or doing something wrong, but rather that we have found an opportunity from which to learn and grow. I only allow positive forward thinking in my studio because letting negative thoughts about your voice enter your head never leads to a beautiful and confident final result. My favorite thing about teaching is seeing the growth in confidence in my students to know that they can do anything to which they apply their efforts. My students love that I meet them where they are and encourage them to reach higher levels in their performance. I primarily teach late middle, high school, and young adults, but I can also teach older adults. I am willing to teach younger children, but I will only focus on vocally appropriate music. My approach as a teacher is to give my students the tools they need to grow and learn on their own. I always seek to give them the confidence to make their own decisions and knowledege that they have the skills to back them up. Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon!
