Hi, my name is Alana, and I am a singer/songwriter from NYC. I have been working with kids on their music In private lessons and as a teaching artist for about three years now. I recently got a BA in Music at City College of New York, where I learned about the context of popular music through its diverse history, as well as how to analyze and create using relevant music theory. I have experience teaching guitar, ukulele, vocals, songwriting, and beginner piano. I find that good communication and problem solving skills are essential aspects of teaching. I want to help and figure out different solutions tailored to specific needs. I also prefer to be organized and have good priorities so I can get things done in a sensible and timely manner. I am passionate about teaching children that music is an available tool for them to express themselves and have fun! I love exploring different genres of music and simplifying musical concepts for others. I believe that all children should have a musical education because it is so beneficial to their emotional and social development. Hope to meet you soon!
