Every sound begins as an accident. A pluck, a hum, a voltage wandering through a wire. What we call music is simply what happens when someone decides to listen closely. I’ve spent three decades chasing those moments, through guitars and consoles, in studios and classrooms, with students discovering how to sculpt noise into meaning. I’ve mixed live shows that felt like weather systems, rebuilt old synthesizers just to hear them breathe again, and taught recording arts and sound design to people who learned that the best way to understand sound is to play with it. Teaching, to me, is a kind of collaboration with chance. You create the conditions for discovery, and something beautiful emerges that wasn’t there before.
