McKenna began singing at the age of 9. Over the years, she developed her skills further by singing in choirs and a cappella groups. She gained performance experience in the Denver area by playing at such venues as The Buell Theater, Globe Hall, Skylark Lounge, and The Oriental Theater with acts such as LARK A Cappella, Tireshoe, and even as a solo artist. Though McKenna can teach many different genres of music, her musical personal favorites are pop, rock, and folk which had great influence on her style of playing. McKenna loves music because it brings people together and gives people community and she loves teaching music because it allows her to share the gift of music with her students.
