Hi, my name is Kody and I am a drummer from Arizona. I have been a student of music for 18+ years. The drummers that have influenced my playing are Cobus Potgieter, Neil Peart, Buddy Rich, but I seek to have a wide variety of influences and include a range of music styles to my individual playing. My teaching style can best be described as interactive, social, exciting, and motivating. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I want others to enjoy the instrument, not just memorize notes but to truly understand and feel the music they're playing. I strive to instill a love and enthusiasm when playing music to everyone I teach. In my lessons, you can expect to learn how to read music, how to play notes, beats, rudiments, and cadences; how to care for an instrument, how to repair their instrument, how to properly practice music. I like to tell my students that progression isn't based on how many notes they can play, but how much they enjoy to play and allow their creativity to be expressed in the music. My favorite thing about teaching is to an idea or desire and successfully turn it into an accomplishment; being able to instill in my student the want to progress and get better. I have been told by previous students that I am exciting and help them enjoy playing rather than feel pressured to play. I primarily teach how to play the drum set, but I can also teach drumline instruments; snare drum, tenors, bass drum, cymbals. As well as concert percussion instruments. My approach as a teacher is to adapt my lessons to the student and not a one size fits all style. I believe that everyone learns differently, so I strive to discover the style that best impacts the student and use that for their lessons. I truly love music and I really love to teach others; I'm excited to begin teaching others and hopefully help my students discover the joys and loves for music and help them become the best versions of themselves.
