My teaching emphasizes listening and building technical skills to help in playing music with other people. I believe that playing the flute is something which, when done with care and thought for the sound and the music, can offer a bridge between oneself and one’s community. I teach students to use the mechanics of flute playing to improve performance with the goal of building the skills to communicate musically with others. I aim to create a positive lesson environment to support anxious players in developing the confidence to make joyful music.
