Bruce James carries the weight of soul like an old song remembered. His voice, thick and smoky, wraps around you not as a performance but as a truth he can’t help but tell. When his hands touch the keyboard, it’s not just playing, it’s communion. Each note feels like a confession, each chord a revelation. His music, like his presence, is raw and human, pulling from the greats who came before him while carving a sound that is entirely his own, timeless and unbound by trend or convention. He cut his teeth at the world-famous Arlyn Studios in Austin, Texas, learning the art of engineering and production from the ground up. It was there that he produced and recorded his first full album as both bandleader and producer, shaping not just songs but a voice that would carry across oceans. From those early days behind the console to years spent touring the world with his band James & Black, Bruce has lived music as both a calling and a passport—traveling through Europe, Africa, and beyond, sharing his sound and spirit wherever the groove could reach. As co-owner and operator of Open Lane Studios and the 17th Street Studio at the Niagara Falls Boys & Girls Club, Bruce has created spaces where creativity lives and breathes. They’re places where young artists can find their rhythm, where curiosity and courage meet, and where sound becomes the language of possibility. Now serving as the Music Education Coordinator at the Niagara Falls Boys & Girls Club, Bruce brings that same passion home. He doesn’t just teach music, he inspires young people to feel it, to tell their stories through melody, and to find their voices in a world that too often asks them to stay quiet.
