About Me

Hello! I'm a Chicago-based drummer with over 15 years of experience! I take a lot of inspiration from rock, funk, latin, and hip-hop, but I am from the south and get folksy/bluegrassy/country when the time is right! Whether you're just beginning or looking for a mentor to help you hone your chops, I'm excited to help you on your drumming journey!

What to expect in my Drum Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

In our first lesson, we'll see what level you're at and how much you know already, and decide what to work on. For beginners, you'll learn how to hold the sticks and one of the simple drum beats that we'll build on in our following lessons. I'll also introduce you to rudiments, which we'll work on in your second lesson. Over time, we'll solidify your form and technique while working on different grooves and rudiments. For the intermediates, we'll see what your skills are and what you're looking to improve on. We'll pick a song or a rhythm and some rudiments to work on that will help you reach your goals. In the following lessons, we'll continue to work on different songs, rhythms, and rudiments to improve your form, technique, chops, and overall skillset. I will meet you where you are and give you all the guidance, patience, and encouragement you need to be a rockstar!

Formal Education:

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Music, with a focus on modern Drums and Percussion performance, from Columbia College Chicago.

Private Education:

I took private drum lessons all throughout school and in college. I've also attended many workshops and camps, including the Flynn Afro Latin Jazz intensive and McNally Smith College of Music Summer Workshop.

Performing Experience:

I'm currently in four bands: Yin Waster is an experimental folk rock duo with plenty of long improvised jams, Indigo Flood is a classic Chicagoan Blues/Rock/Funk band, Megan Esther is a pop rock country band, and DecaGraham is a pop rock (but sometimes jazz) band. I perform regularly around the Chicagoland area and even tour a few times a year! I also was in concert band throughout middle and high school and have performed in multiple musical pit bands!

Experience Teaching:

I am newer to teaching, but I've been learning for most of my life and have a depth of resources and experience to pull from while teaching you!
