My name is Nick, I’m 30 years old and I’ve been playing music for 22 of those years. I started playing guitar when I was 8 and since then I’ve picked up many other skills like bass, drums, and vocals. Between the two bands I’m currently in, Diet Riot and Emma Goldman Sachs, I’ve played lead guitar, rhythm guitar, drums, bass and sang. Along with writing all the songs for EGS I’ve also recorded, mixed and mastered all of our releases to date. We’ve toured all over the country in both bands and played with a lot of big acts in the indie/punk scene along the way. Most recently Diet Riot opened for Theo Von in Los Angeles and did a Jam In The Van session that will be released in the next month or so. Although I’ve never taught music professionally, I’ve taught multiple people how to play over the years. What I’m most proud of is how the people I’ve taught the basics too very quickly turn around and use what I’ve shown them to write their own songs. I come from a diy/punk background and although I have a ton of respect for curriculum and formal training my goal in teaching music is to pass on the guerrilla spirit of making art despite the constraints, limitations, self doubt, and nay-saying that comes with dipping one’s toes into the world of music.
