I started playing drums when I was in 6th grade and it took me a bit to get the hang of it but by the time I was in 9th grade I was going and preforming with my high schools marching band. I had started out playing mallet instruments such as marimba and xylophone but I often moved schools so I didn’t stick to one set percussion instrument. Once I was in 10th grade I had gotten the chance to play drumset for the halftime show and it took a lot of coordination to learn how to move each of your arms and legs independently and even now I’m still learning more on that. For my last two years in high school I had gotten placed on the snare line during football season but for our winter season I had the chance of auditioning for an indoor percussion group and I made the snare line there but only got to march my senior year for the indoor group. After I graduated I continued to go back to my old high school and help teach the drumline throughout their season since they were starting fresh with mostly all new people. By the time the competitions came around I was able to teach them so much that nearly every competition they went to they won’t best in class percussion and or overall superior ratings. I’m looking to continue forward with teaching kids new things and showing them how to be successful in a world full of music and wonders.
