10 Years
Hi, my name is Jeremy and I am a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/recording engineer/producer/mixing and mastering engineer from La Salle, IL. I have been a student of music for 25 years. My musical influences include 60's psychedelia, garage rock, proto-punk, indie and both Easten and Western classical music, and I also enjoy sharing my passion for music with others and bringing joy through art to the next generation through teaching. My teaching style can best be described as leading with empathy and humanity, teaching how to grow fully as a person in addition to the course material. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I believe art and knowledge are two things that are starting to become precious and rare and must be protected and fostered to next generations, and I would want to be a part of that in any way I can. In my lessons, you can expect to learn how music and art appreciation, practice, and application can make them better people in many aspects of life, in addition to improvement of the artform itself. I like to tell my students "Music is what gets most people out bed, even if they don't know it themselves." My favorite thing about teaching is the moment where I get to see the student "get it", and the joy in their faces. My favorite performance was when I performed for free for a benefit concert to support a mental health organization. My students love that I talk to them at their level, but never down to them or in a condescending way. Teaching from a macro view is largely similar through age groups, and children especially have a capacity for learning that is unique, so it feels silly to me to talk down to a person as if they cannot grasp something because of insufficient knowledge-I believe it is simply a lack of experience, and the potential for any person to learn should be treated as infinite. I primarily teach guitar, but I can also teach bass guitar, drums, singing, songwriting, and recording/producing. My approach as a teacher is to be the vehicle in which the student may travel any musical direction they desire, and I am there to teach, facilitate, and motivate. Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon!
