I began drumming when I sat down at my older brother's kit in 1983 when I was 12. I put on a Lynyrd Skynyrd album and began to play along and I was a self-taught natural. After that, I took many years of lessons and played in school and social bands. I began teaching young people in 2006. I specialize is using sheet music not as a memory tool, but as a resource to break down the building blocks of drumming. I also focus on "groove" and how a drummer can impact a song on the up beats, ghost notes, and different levels of tension or intensity. And I can adjust to the learning style of each student. I am a disciple of Neil Peart and Rush. But I am experienced in all types of rock, blues, R&B, jazz, and even hip hop.
