I have played drums all my life and have taught and played professionally since age 17. I have performed all around the USA and in Europe and as far away as Beijing ,China for audiences of 20,000 per night. I have also performed on T.V., live theater and in nightclubs from San Diego to Seattle.
john t is proficient in and teaches Drum Lessons .
Formal Education:
Central High School, Cape Girardeau,MO. (marching band, concert band, pep band, orchestra and jazz band) Southern Illinois University, Carbondale,IL. (Business Admin. in commercial music with minor in performance) Berklee School of Music,Boston,Mass. ( summer semester private percussion studies w/ Gary Burton and Gary Chaffee and other staff faculty.}
Private Education:
Private studies with Jack DeJohnette, Ed Blackwell, and Trilok Gurtu @Creative Music Studios in Woodstock,NY. Private studies with Ralph Humphrey, Freddie Grubber, Peter Donald, and John Hernadez in Los Angeles,Ca.
Performing Experience:
I have performed on TV, radio(live and having my bands record spun on KROCK) musical theater, original rock and roll, and professional "tuxedo" bands that have played for functions including one for the Vice President of the United States. Band and theater performances I have been in have been favorably reviewed and "picks of the week" in the L.A. Times, L.A. Weekly, and Variety Magazine to name a few. I have performed in front of audiences from one dozen people to 20,000. per night.
Experience Teaching:
I have taught since high school graduation to the present time. Some of my students have won awards for their playing and their ensembles playing from the Monterrey Jazz Festival to the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, just to name a few..
