Degree and Field of Study:
What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
What to Expect in Piano Lessons: When you begin lessons with me, you can expect a supportive, patient, and structured approach that helps you build confidence from the very first note. I teach using a set of recommended piano books that offer a strong and reliable foundational curriculum. These books guide our lessons and help you develop the essential skills needed to grow into a well-rounded pianist. Lesson Materials: All students will need to purchase the lesson books I recommend (approximately $40 USD total). These resources are worth the investment, as they provide a clear path forward and set you up with techniques and knowledge that will help you become a strong piano player for years to come. If needed, I will provide a temporary copy of the first or second lesson so you can get started right away while waiting for your books to arrive. A keyboard or piano will be required to practice on and for while I give piano lessons, unless piano lessons on the webcam in which I will give webcam piano lessons next to my piano. During Lessons: Lessons are tailored to your pace and goals, whether we meet in your home or online via webcam. I ask that students be prepared and ready to begin at their scheduled time. We will focus on learning proper technique, note reading, rhythm, posture, and musical expression — all while keeping the experience enjoyable and encouraging. Practice Expectations: To make meaningful progress, students are expected to practice 15 to 30 minutes per day, 4 to 5 days a week. The exact practice time should match your level and needs, and I will help guide you with what to focus on each week. Regular practice builds momentum, confidence, and improvement you will be able to see and hear! A Strong Start for a Lifetime of Music: With consistency, commitment, and the right foundation, you’ll be amazed at how far you can go. These lesson books and our structured approach will help you build the skills to not only play the piano, but to truly enjoy your musical journey. Ages: Children to Adults (please note children under the age of 6 years old I'm okay with teaching and gear the lessons to being more fun for their age and we go a little slower due to their age and to what I see in their individual progress each lesson). Their lessons should be fun and NOT frustrating at all-I want to build their confidence in learning the piano, so at such a young age the lessons have to carefully planned. If a child 6 or younger cannot focus enough-that is somewhat reasonable focus for piano lessons than I may recommend the child to wait for another year to begin their piano lesson journey. Thank you for understanding.
