Makayla G.

Makayla has always loved music from an early age. She began playing the piano at the age of 8, and started playing the alto saxophone and singing in choirs by the age of 12. During high school, Makayla sang and played in her high school’s auditioned choirs and bands. With her choir and bands, she competed in national and state competitions and earned superior ratings. Makayla was a teacher’s assistant for her piano teacher and helped teach students repertoire, theory and technique. During her junior year, she competed in the Utah Shakespeare Festival in a singing quartet and received first place in the minstrel category. Makayla served as service vice president and president of her high school’s instrumental music program her junior and senior years. Makayla continued her music education by earning her associates in music at Southern Utah University. Makayla was part of the auditioned wind ensemble and jazz band, and sang in the university’s women’s choir. She is currently studying at BYU-Idaho to earn her bachelor’s of music in music education with an emphasis in voice. Makayla's favorite thing about music is the connections that can be made with others through music. Her favorite thing about teaching music is sharing her love of music with her students, and helping them develop their own love of music through learning. One of her favorite teaching experiences was being a teacher’s assistant and helping students prepare duets for an 8 piano benefit concert to help a student with cancer.
