About Me

Hi, my name is Ken and I am a guitarist/bassist from Hartwell, GA. I am 24 years old, I have been a student of music for 12 years, choir for 5 years, and I am also a US Marine Corps veteran. My musical influences include mostly slow and melodic folk or country, punk rock, some metal, jazz, and a lot of Christian hymns and worship music. Some of the artists I love to play are James Taylor, John Denver, Molly Tuttle, Green Day, Blink-182, Ella Fitzgerald, and a lot of Christian hymns. I grew up playing a lot of guitar in church settings, anything from contemporary worship to transposing chords directly from old hymnals. My teaching style is customized towards what music my students enjoy and want to learn. My philosophy is that learning is a lot easier when you can figure out how to make it fun and enjoyable. I primarily teach beginner and intermediate acoustic guitar, but I can also teach bass and rhythm electric guitar. Thanks for taking the time to check out my profile! I’d love to help you get started or take your playing to the next level!

What to expect in my Guitar Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

For BEGINNER students, the goal is confidence, consistency, and having fun while learning the basics. If a student can play a few songs and feels excited to practice, we’re doing it right. Beginner students can expect to learn: •How to properly hold and tune the guitar •Basic open chords and smooth chord transitions •Simple strumming patterns and rhythm •Reading chord charts and tabs •Playing full songs early on (not just exercises) Lessons for INTERMEDIATE students are tailored to gaining understanding of music theory and smoothly incorporating techniques that will support the student’s musical interests and goals. Intermediate students can expect to work on: •Barre chords, movable chord shapes, and jazz chords •More advanced strumming, picking patterns, arpeggios, and fingerpicking •Understanding keys, chord progressions, transposition, and scale-to-chord relationships •Alternate picking, slides, hammer-ons, and pull-offs •Playing with better timing, tone, and dynamics *I have one acoustic guitar that students may borrow and play during lessons, but I currently do not have any electric or bass guitars*
