Hi, my name is Drake and I am a sophomore from The University of Oklahoma. I have been a student of music for 8 years. My musical influences include band and choir, and I also enjoy watching others discover their passion in music. My teaching style can best be described as methodical and passionate. I will make sure my student understands a concept before moving on. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I will push students to not only learn how to play music, but why they are playing it and how everything works. In my lessons, you can expect to learn the fundamentals of music, from reading a staff, to understanding notes, rhythm, and tempo, to finally playing for yourself. I like to tell my students that it's easy to pick up an instrument and start playing, but to understand is a whole different story. My favorite thing about teaching is watching my students work out problems, and seeing the joy that follows when they overcome it. My favorite performance is Suessical the Musical. My students love that I am respectful, and treat them as a peer, rather than a condescending teacher. I primarily teach choir, but I can also teach low brass instruments Tuba, Trombone, Baritone, Trumpet. My approach as a teacher is to build from the ground up, and to let your student succeed not from just my teaching, but from letting them discover and invent on their own.
