I am a musician of 18 years. And studied at Berklee college of music. I want to teach students how to set themselves free with their instrument, on every skill level. Even in the beginning when students have literal physical restrictions from the get go my goal is to teach them how to sound as best as they can with what resources they have. For example, if they haven't yet developed the capability of playing a full g chord on the guitar, then I want them to learn how to play a g chord by only playing the third fret of the high string. Another example would be in the very beginning, before teaching the student about scales and key signatures I would have them put on a very simple backing track and play all the notes on the fretboard one by one and find which notes sound good and which ones sound bad. So then they can build their own ideas using the notes that sound good. I believe that it takes very little to be a good musician and students in the beginning do not need to be bombarded with mathematical information what they need is to be inspired, by themselves. They need to learn how to be creative first and foremost and then learn, technique and theory to enhance that creativity.
