About Me

Hi, my name is Candace and I am a Navy Veteran and Licensed Recreation Therapist in the state of North Carolina. I have been a student of music for 20 years. My musical influences include Prince, The Beatles, Radiohead, Nirvana, Hendrix and I also enjoy more modern artists such as Taylor Swift and many more. My teaching style can best be described as fun and encouraging as I have seen a lot of success when art is created out of enjoyment, creativity, and the utilization of positive reinforcement. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I value artistic expression. In my lessons, you can expect to learn a strong foundation of beginner techniques and basic music theory. I like to tell my students that learning how to play a guitar is a combination of heart and practice. My favorite thing about teaching is seeing how students progress and the joy it brings them. My students love that I take a gentle approach to teaching and focus more on the value found in each lesson because this adds up and you always end up surprising yourself by simply not giving up and continuing to practice. I primarily teach beginner lessons to children but I have also taught teenagers, and adults. My approach as a teacher is to meet my students where they are each lesson and problem solve any challenges they may be facing together so that they realize they are capable and playing music is playing which is fun!
