Hey there, my name is Jacob. My interest in music goes back to as early as I can remember. I was inspired to pick up guitar after seeing Jimi Hendrix play the Star Spangled Banner. After hearing Van Halen and Pantera’s music I was dead set on a guitar for Christmas when I was 11 years old. I started to take guitar seriously at 13 where I began to take lessons for two years under Pat Mahoney. I continued my studies on my own and in twelfth grade I passed a freshman college Music Theory course with a 98. I played in multiple bands after high school while also studying Jazz under the great guitar player, Steve Watson ex Dolly Parton. I slowed down significantly around 24 years old when I started a family while still keeping up my studies and playing music. Occasionally myself, I still take lessons from friends that are incredible touring musicians. I’m currently in a band with original songs and a cover band with that same group. My background is primarily rock/metal based specifically Progressive, but I also enjoy funk, blues, and classical musiccountless other genres as well. Bands like Rush, Dream Theater, Periphery, Animals As Leaders, and Intervals to name a few. Other inspirations include Frank Zappa, Steve Vai, EVH, Darrell Abbott, Eric Johnson, Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert, Richie Kotzen, Allan Holdsworth, and Guthrie Govan. My teaching history is a bit spread out through the years. Starting at around 18 years old, I would go over anything from basic chords, artist study/song breakdowns, and all the way to how much theory with however willing anyone wanted to learn to help them reach their writing goals. My approach is always understand where a student wants to take their style/skill level, give them the tools and practice schedule they would need to succeed, and instill a kind approach to them and their craft.
