Lara started playing violin in 5th grade. Her high school orchestra won a national competition and traveled to Washington D.C. for the Bicentennial celebration and performed in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. Lara attended Northern Arizona University on a violin scholarship at played with the N.A.U. orchestra and Flagstaff Symphony. While in college, she taught the Suzuki method to beginning students. Lara graduated from N.A.U. with a B.A. in Violin Performance.
