Hi, my name is Brett and I'm a Christian singer/songwriter from the Harriman/Rockwood area. Read below to see if I would be a good fit for you! Background: I have been playing multiple instruments on and off for 27 years. I got my first drum set when I was 3 years old. At age 5 I got my first guitar, and shortly there after I learned bass, viola, piano, and even trombone in middle school. Due to life, and other opportunities, I put down any serious musical pursuits until I was around 28-29. What I Do Now: Currently, I'm pursuing a career change due to recent health issues. Next to writing originals, I play bass, guitar, and sing at my church as part of the worship team. I'm also working on playing more live gigs, and putting an album together with a end goal of playing and teaching music full-time. Why Teach?: First, I love teaching and I want people to experience the joy of being able to create music. I believe music is a language that can convey feelings that can't be put into words. Whether it's playing a song that resonates with you, or writing your own song to play to a spouse or loved one, my goal is to help expand your abilities. Second, due to recent health issues, I am unable to continue my career/business pursuits in construction. With very few options avaliable, I decided to follow my convictions of where I feel God is leading me, which I feel is music! Who Am I For?: As of right now, I am focusing on teaching new players. Anyone who has only just picked up a guitar for the first time recently, or people with very little expereicne. Among other things, you can expect to learn... -The basics of chords -Scales -Tuning -Tapping -Alternate picking -Rhythm and soloing -How to read/write tabs -Time signature basics -Playing styles picking and finger style -Exercises that increase speed, dexterity, and coordination -Parts of the guitar such as where the bridge is -How to change strings What Style Of Teacher Am I?: Very laid back "follow your pace" type. I will gently push you to for growth, however each students plan is individualized. All in all, I want to give you the tools to grow if you give a man a fish you feed him for a night. If you teach him to fish you feed him for life. In addition to creating a learning plan be ready for me to ask you a lot of questions!, you can expect to be playing on your first day. What Style Player Am I?: I have been an ear player all of my life. This means I play better and learn better by hearing things rather than reading sheet music to learn or play a song. All this means is when most people need sheet music to learn a new song, I can learn it by listening and playing along without reading the sheet music. I mention this because this is a very specific style that may or may not work for you. Certain people can't play by ear at all but can play through a piece of sheet music with zero mistakes the first try. Others can't read sheet music but can play the same song just by listening. Each is a different unique set of skills. Currently I play only acoustic worship style/alternative but I have a background in metal as well. Whats My Inspiration?: A lot of my inspiration comes from melodic metal, country, and funk/blues. I listen to just about every genre. Favorite Preformance?: My favorite performance was playing the national anthem for a motocross race. I was 14 and that was my first performance for approximately 800+ people. Fun Facts: I used to knit/crochet at a very basic level, race motocross competitively, and at one point was afraid of my own voice in regards to singing! If you got this far, thank you for reading! Though I may not have a lot of experience teaching guitar, I do have experience playing it and would love to help you learn and grow and a guitarist. Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon!
