What to expect in my Vocal Lessons
In my vocal lessons, students can expect structured and practical training grounded in both formal education and real performance experience. As a Commercial Music major at Oral Roberts University, with Voice and DAW as my primary instruments, I have spent years developing a strong understanding of proper vocal technique and healthy singing habits. Because I continue to train and refine my own voice, I teach from both knowledge and personal experience. In our lessons, we focus on building a solid foundation. This includes proper breathing and breath support, vocal warm-ups, pitch accuracy, tone control, and safe expansion of the vocal range. I also emphasize vocal health, helping students understand how to protect their voice for long-term growth. Since my background is in commercial music, I can guide students in developing stylistic flexibility, especially in genres like R&B, gospel, pop, and contemporary styles. Most importantly, students can expect patience, encouragement, and a positive learning environment. I believe growth happens best when students feel safe to explore their voice without pressure. My goal is not just to teach exercises, but to help each student understand their unique sound, gain confidence, and experience freedom in their singing.
What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons
In my songwriting lessons, students can expect a creative and supportive environment where their ideas are valued and developed with intention. As a Commercial Music major at Oral Roberts University, I approach songwriting not just as a talent but as a craft that can be studied, practiced, and refined. I help students understand that great songs don’t just happen—they are built with purpose, structure, and emotion. We will work on the foundations of songwriting, including melody development, lyric writing, song structure, and storytelling. I guide students in expressing real thoughts and emotions in a way that feels honest and relatable. We also explore how to match lyrics to strong melodic ideas, how to create memorable hooks, and how to structure verses, pre-choruses, and choruses to keep listeners engaged. Because of my background in commercial music, I also teach students how to write with intention for modern genres like R&B, gospel, pop, and hip-hop-influenced styles. Whether a student wants to write from personal experience, faith, or pure creativity, my goal is to help them find their authentic voice. Most importantly, students can expect encouragement, honest feedback, and guidance that challenges them to grow while still allowing them to create freely and confidently.
