About Me

I’ve been playing saxophone for over 50 years and have performed in concert bands, marching bands, jazz ensembles, orchestra pits, recording sessions, and clubs. My musical background spans jazz, rock, and funk, and I currently play lead alto sax in the SPSCC Big Band. As a teacher, I focus on strong fundamentals while making lessons fun and connected to the music students actually want to play. I especially enjoy working with beginners and helping them get comfortable with the instrument, producing their first good sound and building confidence early on. As students advance, I introduce concepts like reading music, tone production, phrasing, improvisation, and developing their own musical voice. A big part of my teaching philosophy is making practice feel rewarding instead of a chore. When students enjoy what they’re playing and understand how the instrument works, they naturally want to pick it up more often. My goal is to combine solid technique with music that keeps students motivated and excited to keep improving.
