I’ve always held a deep passion for music and teaching music in my heart. I started playing drum-set in the fourth grade after I was introduced to the man who’d become my private lessons teacher for the next eight years of my life and I look back at it as the greatest opportunity I ever had the honor of receiving. He was the most talented musician I ever met in my life on top of being one of the kindest people I ever got to say I knew. He saw that I actually had some talent in drum-set and he encouraged me to keep going with music, instilling a deep passion in me to be the best musician out there that still resides in me today. I got really adept at drum-set, I still consider it my best instrument, and would later pick up the piano, guitar, and bass after joining the school jazz band and falling deeply in love with jazz music and composition. I was of course also in the school orchestra being the first chair percussionist, developing a deep appreciation for concert hall and orchestral music. During high school is also when I began writing my own music, something I still do to this day. Since then I have continued to hone those writing skills as well as my recording and mixing abilities. Before I graduated, my lessons teacher tragically passed and it left a deep impact on me that I still deal with today. The passion I had for teaching suddenly began to grow and I didn’t know it quite then but I now know that teaching music is all I want to do with my life and there’s nothing I’m more passionate about. At the time I had already been committed to attend college for computer science but I met a friend while there who was in the music education program. The idea then began to form in my head that maybe private lessons should be the way to go instead. After a few more years in college, another separate friend contacted me and said that he really respected me as a musician and asked if I could teach him how to play drum set. For the last year or so, I have been going over to his place with my guitar once every two weeks to show him how to play drums over a song, just like my lessons teacher did when he first came to my house back in the fourth grade. This has brought me such immense joy and has only confirmed that bringing music to new people is my greatest passion in life.
