About Me

For nearly twenty years, Riley has been consistently refining and exploring his musical education and ability, pushing himself to greater degrees of skill, understanding, and experience, and has achieved success at young age as a touring and recording musician. While he began playing piano at an early age, his focus quickly shifted to drum set and percussion studies, a passion which led him away from his home in Denver to Nashville, Tennessee, where he obtained his Bachelors of Music in Commercial Percussion with an emphasis in performance from Belmont University. Before moving to Nashville, Riley frequently gigged with folk rock bands around Denver, Boulder, and Fort Collins at venues like The Bluebird Theater, The Fox Theater, Globe Hall, and Larimier Lounge, opening for and sharing the stage with bands like Houndmouth, Joe Pug, The Ballroom Thieves, Run River North, Bob Schnieder, and many more. During his time in Nashville, Riley furthered is education in percussive studies with talented and accredited instructors Todd London, Todd Kemp, and Christopher Norton, taking classes and private lessons in Classical, World, Concert, Hand, and Commercial percussion. He spent time between classes playing on Broadway, and around town, before landing a touring gig with platinum selling country artist, Canaan Smith. While still a senior at Belmont, Riley began touring with Smith, and for nearly three years, he played festivals, casinos, and clubs all over the country alongside acts like Chris Lane, Tyler Rich, Colbie Calliat, and Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line. During this time, Riley also played for several Indie acts as well, recording and performing for folk band Hello Darling, Americana artist and Mad Record Collective's Cole Ritter, and folk up–and–comers River & Rail. Riley has recorded in prestigious studios like The Sound Emporium, Ocean Way, The Blue Room, Q-Hut, and Welcome to 1979, working with Grammy winning Producers like Brent Maher and Brown Bannister. Riley is passionate about the art and education of percussion, and loves communicating and teaching eager musicians of all ages. His musical interests and experiences lie in World Percussion, Jazz, Hand Percussion, Folk-Rock, RnB, Pop, and Musical Theater/Pit Percussion, but he's well learned and highly experienced in genres like Rock, Funk, Blues, Country, Punk, and several others.

What to expect in my Drum Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

Lessons are carefully designed and tailored to the needs and goals of each respective student. Regardless of age, experience, or interest level, these lessons will meet you where you are comfortable and progressively build upon prior lessons, focusing on Technique, Theory, Groove, Timing, Musicianship, and Collaboration. At the heart of music is passion and courage, and these lessons will serve to teach and train your musical abilities and understanding so that they might intersect and empower you to pursue that passion with courage, and master the instrument through discipline, joy, and good, consistent practice. It\'s important for these lessons to remain fun and exciting while also providing adequate instruction and training, and above all, to develop a firm and comprehensive understanding of the instrument, its history, and its dynamics on stage, in the studio, and most significantly, in one\'s own practice space.
