About Me
Hi, my name is Ken and I am a musician from here in Cincinnati. I started exploring music as a young boy, and over the years took lessons in piano, then brass instruments and voice, composition and worship leading. I was into everything musical as a high schooler, from band to music theater, choir and even rock bands. I grew up in Madeira, where the music teachers in high school had a huge impact on me. Then I received music degrees from music schools at UC, then Miami and UK, ending with a doctorate in composition. During those years I had the great joy and privilege of being a college music professor myself, heading the music program at Cincinnati Christian University, where I taught for more than 32 years. So I have former students all around town, and even all around the world. There is nothing I enjoy more than discovering and creating music, and especially being able to help others discover the joy of music. For all of that formal education, I have always maintained that the best way to learn is to discover for yourself, so I teach as a fellow explorer. I have studied jazz and classical music, but I’ve always been more of a contemporary musician myself. I have mostly taught college age young adults, but my wife and I have 28 grandchildren. So do you think I love kids? My teaching style can best be described as inductive discovery. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I start with the big picture and then lead to the music at hand.. In my lessons, you can expect to learn about yourself as well as learning about performance.. I think my students would say that they are encouraged at each lesson. I primarily teach voice and piano, but I can also teach composition, theory, production and songwriting. Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon!
