About Me

Hi, my name is Lucas and I am a rock/metal drummer from Texas. I have been a student of music for 13 years. My musical influences include John Bonham, Joey Jordison, Danny Carey, Chad Smith, Dave Grohl, II from Sleep Token, Larnell Lewis and I also enjoy progressive/fusion drummers like Matt Garska. My teaching style can best be described as passionate and fastidious. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I strive to educate others on how to have fun while playing music well. In my lessons, you can expect to learn how to find your style and enjoy drums in your own way. I like to tell my students "There are no rules in music!". My favorite thing about teaching is spreading joy and watching others grow. My favorite performance was Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin. My students love that I put myself in their shoes. I primarily teach rock/metal, but I can also teach blues and funk. My approach as a teacher is to stay positive, but realistic. Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon!

What to expect in my Drum Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

My curriculum is focused on a strong foundation of fundamental techniques, followed by an emphasis on artistic expression and passion for music. I will teach you rudiments depending on your skill level, and how to implement rudiments into your playing on every level. You will get a strong grasp of what tools you can use to elevate your drumming, like orchestration and poly-rhythms. I also provide references of performances and other lessons, as I believe that educating yourself on the "behind-the-scenes" of music can help you make better music. Most of all, my goal is to teach my students how to learn efficiently and effectively.

Formal Education:

I am currently a student at Lamar State College at Port Arthur, majoring in Commercial Audio.

Private Education:

As a kid, my parents bought me private drum lessons twice. Both times, the lessons didn't last and I didn't enjoy it. My experience as a student was not very personable, it just felt like the teachers were giving me exercises to do and not really teaching me. I strive to be different from this in how I approach teaching. I want to give my students a personable and unique experience, because every drummer is unique in their own way.
