Howdy, my name is Nathan! I am a musician from Asheville, NC. I have been a student of music for over a decade and learn new things every day. My musical influences include Flea Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Mayer, Joe Dart Vulfpeck, and Julian Lage. Experience: I have six years of live performance/recording experience on both guitar and bass, two of which have been professional. I am comfortable teaching on both instruments. Teaching style: My teaching style focuses on what a student wants to play genre, songs, artists while building a solid technical foundation. This approach is based on the fact that music is about context. Chords, theory, and technique are vital, but they are much more approachable when learning songs and riffs that use 'em! Lessons: In my lessons, you can expect to learn how to play the major, minor, pentatonic, and blues scale. You can also expect to learn how to play major, minor, 7th, and extended chords across the fretboard, understand note names and their position, as well as apply practical music theory. And, most importantly, you can expect to learn songs by artists you like! -For guitarists, I teach: picking, strumming, fingerstyle, barre chords, bending, introduction to tapping, harmonics, and more. -For bassists, I teach: plucking, picking, slap techniques, note isolation, and other relevant skills. Proper right and left hand techniques, as well as fretting, are taught on both instruments. Music is really fun, and at times, really challenging! But simply getting started, or getting back into it, is the most difficult part. We will start at your current level and build from there! Thank you for taking a look at my profile, hope to meet you soon!

What to expect in my Guitar Lessons
I base my teaching off of each student's playing level. I've worked with absolute beginners and seasoned guitarists alike. For lessons, that means basing material off of student's skills and interests. I typically work out of a method book for music reading, and learn and notate songs for students that they're interesting in learning. For acoustic guitar, we'll focus a lot on chording, theory, and practical musical communication. For electric, typically we get into scales and power chords off the bat.
What to expect in my Bass Guitar Lessons
I base my teaching off of each student's playing level. I've worked with absolute beginners and seasoned guitarists alike. For lessons, that means basing material off of student's skills and interests. I typically work out of a method book for music reading, and learn and notate songs for students that they're interesting in learning. I teach both basic music reading skills and the Nashville number system in order to round out bassist's musical communication skills. We also focus on locking into rhythm and good right hand techniques.
What to expect in my Record Engineer Produce
Beginner/Intermediate: While Ableton is preferred, I understand the basics of most DAWs and am comfortable working with them for beginner lessons.-I teach students to set up recording tracks, EQ, effects, mixing, MIDI, and essential DAW functions. I also teach basic mic placement if applicable, recording techniques, and dealing with multitrack/take lane recording.-More importantly, I work with students to execute their creative vision through chording, beat creation, and song structuring. Intermediate/Advanced: For DAW-intensive lessons, students must have Ableton Live 10 or higher. For in-studio and recording technique lessons, the student can use the DAW of their choosing as long as they are proficient in that program.-Lessons are student-goal-oriented, with a focus on workflow and collaboration. Goals may look like: setting up a project and aiming to complete one part each lesson, giving and teaching creative/musical direction to advanced engineers, or diving into mic selection and placement for drums, different amps, and vocals. For those interested in mixing, I teach EQ and compression techniques, as well as leveling, spatial techniques, harmony mixing, and panning. And if the student is trying to release any music, we can review copyright, record labels, and discuss simple branding.
