About Me

Tom has always loved music from an early age. He began playing guitar at the age of 6 and continued his education by getting a Bachelor's Degree in Music Composition and a Master's in Music theory. His musical influences include Classic Rock, Jazz, and Classical music. Tom's favorite thing about music is that it brings people together in ways that no other artform can and his favorite thing about teaching music is getting to know his students and watching them grow as musicians. One of his favorite teaching experiences was when he taught a friend who had never played guitar before to play one part of a classical duet that he wrote. When taking lessons with Tom you can expect him to tailor his lessons to your specific musical tastes, but also to push your boundaries to discover new worlds of music. Tom is a very warm and engaging instructor who will tailor lessons to your specific needs, teaching any style you may want to learn while also pushing your musical boundaries and providing specific practice instructions.

Formal Education:

BA in Music Composition from SUNY Albany MA in Music Theory from SUNY Potsdam 6 years of studying Music theory/Composition at the PhD level at Ohio State University

Performing Experience:

Tom got lead roles in musicals throughout high school and performed in all-state and honors choirs as well as jazz band on guitar. He gave recitals in college both as a solo artist and as part of guitar ensembles and choirs. He has been in various original and cover bands since the year 1995, performing in upstate New York and in the Columbus and Cleveland areas of Ohio. He has had an english horn/basoon duet published by the prestigious Fish Creek Music and has songs streaming on Spotify, YouTube, Reverbnation, and Soundcloud.

Experience Teaching:

Tom was a music theory TA from his undergraduate days through his PhD studies. He began giving guitar lessons in 2005. Additionally, he was a K-8 General Music Teacher at Lorain Preparatory Academy from 2 and a Choir director for General Johnnie Wilson Middle School from 2, and had a short stint teaching emotionally disabled students at EA academy in Brookpark in 2025.
