What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons
General Information: Song writing Lessons are usually recommended to be paired with vocal lessons, since song writing involves some singing aspects. Beginner: Beginners will learn the principles of songwriting. We will work together to write songs of their own, and they will learn the basic principles of performance. Intermediate: Intermediates will briefly discuss the principles of songwriting, and we will work partially together to write songs. They will learn how to edit and revise their own work, and sing them out loud using the principles of performance. Advanced: Advanced songwriters will learn the principles of performing the songs they have written and show off their work. They will learn how to improve their work and rework their songs into other genres vocally.
What to expect in my Vocal Lessons
General Information: There are two types of vocal lessons I offer. The standard vocal lesson, and the performance vocal lesson. Performance vocals don't cost any extra, and is recommended for musical theatre students. Each vocal lesson, standard or performance, will start with a scale to find range, and a partial song run through (like one chorus or bridge) to test found range. This helps me understand where the student is so I can meet them where they are and help to the best of my ability. I may ask my standard vocal students to sing a song or work on a song to build up those habits of vocal training! Beginner: Beginner vocals include vocal warm ups that are relatively easy, breath control, technique, and learning about the principles of singing! We will learn the differences between right and wrong things when we are singing, and how to correct them. For performance vocals, beginners will choose a song, and I will choose a song and we will break them down and discuss the basic principles of performance. Performance vocals will include vocal warm ups, breath control, and technique. Intermediate: Intermediate vocals include standard vocal warm ups, breath control, technique, and harmony building. We will learn about our mouths and throats, and break down how to hear harmonies by ear. Range will be encouraged to expand. Me and the student will talk about song selection and how to find songs that are best for them. Performance vocals will learn about the principles of performance, and implement them into a song the student chooses and I choose. They will include vocal warm ups, breath control, technique, and range will be heavily encouraged to expand. Advanced: Advanced vocals will include relatively harder vocal warm ups, breath control, technique, harmony, and range expansion. We will briefly touch on the principles of singing if needed and run through different songs to make the training habitual. Performance vocals will have the student and I choose songs (3+) to work on together. They can choose to work on as many songs as they like. We will discuss the principles of performance and create performances together to the songs we have selected.
