About Me

Hi! My name is Yuqi. I am currently a freshman in college, attending the University of California, Berkeley. I was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, and love it there! I've been playing piano for over 12 years, since I was six, under the instruction of Fay Adams. I fell in love with piano when I learned it was an outlet for me to express my feelings through music. I found myself wanting to share that joy and similar feeling with others as well. Since then, I've loved performing, whether that's at nursing homes, for family, or in front of judges at KMTA, TMTA, and national-level competitions! I also love teaching piano, reading music, in my spare time. I have many years of performing and competing experience. My most memorable competitions include the American Protege International Piano and Strings Competition, where I won 2nd Place, and was invited to play at Carnegie Hall, New York unforgettable experience and so grateful for it!. I also placed second in the International Music Competition: Best Kabalevsky Performance in 2021 and came first in the Best Chopin Performance in 2023. My favorite piece I've ever played is Chopin's Nocturn in B flat Minor, though Rachmaninoff's Elegie in E flat Minor is a close second, as I played the piece in Carnegie Hall.
