About Me

Hello! My name is Jerell. I am a singer, vocal technician, & a teacher at heart. I have been a student of music since I was extremely young. I was accepted into the Berkeley Center for the Arts for voice in 2013. After 4 years there, I attended Charleston Southern University where I further studied classical voice under the tutelage of the Horton School of Music. Having fallen in love with Rock early on, singing in church since a young age, and dabbling in numerous other styles of music throughout my life, I approach many genres with the implementation of the techniques, discipline, and care for the voice I've been taught, and this flows naturally into how my lessons are taught. One vocal teacher once told me "if you can sing classically, you can sing anything." I truly believe that. From Broadway, to church worship, to pop & rock, I can teach you how to better utilize YOUR unique voice and use it to it's fullest potential. Thanks for taking a look at my profile. What to expect in my Vocal Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

I structure the first 1 hour session to assess the foundation of your unique voice (what type of voice you have): what it can & can't currently do, what words or parts of songs it gets tripped up on, natural smoothness or rasp, or natural power. Then we'll build on that foundation to efficiently cover the skills needed to elevate your voice to the next level.

Formal Education:

My formal musical education consists of a few years of classical violin, classical vocal training in the Berkeley Center for the Arts, and further classical voice/ music theory training at Charleston Southern University as a student of the Horton School of Music.

Performing Experience:

I've been singing and leading songs at church since middle school to current day, and have vocally performed numerous classical pieces in both college performance classes and concert settings. I've been trained in musical theater by the wonderful Dr. Jennifer Luiken and Thomas Keating, having also performed as the Grinch in "Suessical the Musical" during my time at Charleston Southern University.

Experience Teaching:

I have prior and current experience teaching all ages in public school as a substitute and as a youth leader in the church teaching middle through high schoolers, breaking down the intricacies of biblical text in ways they can comprehend and understand. I will do the same with music and music theory.
