About Me

Hi, my name is Tyler and I am a musician from Texas. I have been a student of music for 24 years. My musical influences include rock and roll and jazz and I also enjoy voice acting. My teaching style can best be described as relatable and easy to follow. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I find the joy in music, because that is what it is all about. In my lessons, you can expect to learn the everything from the basics of music fundamentals to why it sounds the way it does. I like to tell my students that everyone can do music, all it takes is a little practice and a lot of heart. My favorite thing about teaching is the moment when you finally get a new concept or technique and it just makes sense to you in your own way. My favorite performance was performing in London during the 2012 Olympics on my guitar. My students love that I treat them like a person with ideas and their own approaches; no student is the same and everyone learns differently. I primarily teach guitar, but I can also teach all concert band instruments from my decade of experience as a Band Director in Texas. My approach as a teacher is to meet my students where they are at, whether you are a barebones beginner or someone trying to improve beyond their limits and understand the theory behind why the music they play sounds so good!
