About Me

I began playing the bass guitar at age 13. I quickly also began playing 6-string guitar. For the first 3 years of my learning, I would play in rock bands at summer camp and after-school programs. In high school, I went to a performing arts high school, and began learning music theory and piano. Both of these experiences left me with solid frameworks of the "beginner's mind", or how we begin to learn and learn most effectively. I was entirely self-taught but was constantly surrounded by music at home, particularly classic jazz and various forms of rock. I applied and was accepted to NYU Steinhardt Jazz Studies in 2022, to try and continue my learning and fuse my influences together. I'm now graduating but picked up important wisdom on the importance on true unburdened "play" and exploration in addition to solid grasp of standard music ideas. I enjoy exploring and learning with students, rather than merely teaching them. I ascribe to the mentality outlined in the "Inner Game of Tennis," a book used by teachers and spiritual mentors the world over; good teaching relies on our natural abilities to notice the world around us and not judging one's ability at any moment.
