Welcome to piano lessons. With twenty five years experience teaching piano, voice, and guitar, and a focus on early childhood development, I obtained my BA in music and Masters in education, while working as a part time piano teacher after school. Teaching alll ages, I have enjoyed many of my students from the age of 6 until they graduate from high school. With a deep love for children and have raised four of my own. It is a gift to experience the world through their eyes and be a part of their enthusiasm for learning. There are no mistakes only opportunities, has become my mission statement. Redirection through questions and logical consequence encourage learners to try new things. Music lessons should be fun and tailored to each individual learning style. In a typical lesson we warm up with scale work, review last weeks assignment’s and work over any problem areas encountered in practice. Each new lesson focuses on a new skill, with games, duets, improv, finger exercises, theory, sight reading and ear training. As a professional musician I have led choirs, composed vocal and instrumental music, performed live with various bands, and released an original EP of RnB and Rock in 2011 with my chosen band of Portland musician’s. I graduated from PSU in 2008 with a BA in music and 2011 with a Masters in music education. While working at Eliason school of music I taught anywhere from 12-20 students ages 6-60 for 12 years. I have been teaching piano, voice and guitar privately since the age of 21.

What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
A typical lesson includes warm-ups such as scales and technique, review of previous material, and focused work on new skills. Lessons are engaging and varied, incorporating games, duets, improvisation, theory, and Coordinate Movement exercises. I enjoy composing and improvising with students, often using sections of their current pieces or exploring styles they enjoy—such as transforming a classical melody into a blues style or experimenting with tempo and expression. We also build listening and musicianship skills through interactive games like “Name That Tune,” as well as memory games where students echo back short musical passages that gradually increase in length. Each lesson is tailored to the individual student’s learning style and interests, creating a balance of structure and creativity. I also offer optional recitals twice a year for students who wish to perform.
