About Me
Mr. John L. holds a diploma in piano performance from the Conservatory of Salerno, Italy, and a Masters in Music from Rutgers University. He is the winner of several piano competitions in Europe including the 4th national piano competition in Rome, Italy. He teaches traditional piano with a variety of styles: classical, jazz, popular, and modern. John had entered the Doctoral program at Rutgers back in 2001 and studied music composition with C. Wourine. and piano with T. Lettvin. Taught in various music studio's including Rutgers and Princeton University with Frances Clark. He also earned a Piano tuning certification at Rutgers University and studied with N. Hunt. John services all the pianos at Octopus Music School as well as Piscataway, Dunellen and the Middlesex area. In Italy, he studied with Vincenzo Vitale, and was taught the “Vitale technique” Studied also with Antonio Di Donna and Francesco Cirillo. This method of playing would use the whole arm with the fingers. Free falling of the entire weight of the arm should be the most natural thing. Currently teaching, performing, and recording for state-wide events. Mr. John believes that teachers and students should work through the piece recognizing all the choices available to make a performance. I want the student to enjoy all the possibilities that are available in playing this instrument. Some remarks from parents and students: Mrs. Choi "Mr. John is one of the best piano teachers in NJ. He has taught my son and now he is majoring in music"-Mr. Patel "Mr. John has been teaching my son for the past 2 years. He is very patient and has a great way with children".-Mr. Olsen, "I'm very pleased with Mr. John approach in teaching my daughter. He teaches with such enthusiasm and knowledge of the piano. Mrs. Leonidas-"My son was only 3 when he started playing. Studying with Mr. John, in 2 years my son won second prize at the 2nd OMS piano competition". Mrs. Koknay, "Mr. John is one of the best teachers my son has ever had. He has been with at least 5 teachers in the past 3 years. With Mr. John you know you are getting the best piano instruction. In 2025 my son won 1st Prize at the Second Octopus Music School Piano Competition" held at Rutgers University.
